McQueen’s garments from his earlier collections such as “Banshee” (A/W 1994), “The Birds” (S/S 1995), and “Dante” (A/W 1996) had locks of hair coiled in a pouch of Perspex sewn into the lining of the garments. Alexander McQueen’s inspiration behind the hair label came from Victorian times when prostitutes would sell their hair for kits of hair locks, which were purchased by people to include in jewelry or given to their lovers as gifts. Earlier pieces contained McQueen’s own hair.
Low-riding "bumster" waist line. Banded waist with non-slip elastic at interior. Center back invisible zipper with single button closure at top. Two hip pockets. Center front slit. Center back Perspex label with locks of hair. Original care and size tags have been removed.
